Today's Rock History Lesson...

FREDDIE AND THE DREAMERS

Freddie and the Dreamers recorded their biggest hit exactly 47 years ago today... July 8, 1963. Their records were immensely popular until 1965, so their impact on the British Invasion was pretty short-lived. Although they were often lumped into the Mersey bands from Liverpool, they were actually from Manchester, England, as were Herman's Hermits and Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders.

They were unusual to say the least, led by a comical chap named Freddie Garrity. At 5'3", Garrity would bounce around the stage waving his arms and leaping about like a madman. Another hit record "Do the Freddie" had a lot of us emulating Garrity on the dance floor. They only had a few hits, and four albums in the USA... but everyone remembers "Freddie and the Dreamers"!
