Today is Paul McCartney's 73rd birthday. There's absolutely no disputing the man's amazing number of contributions to rock music. But along with everything else, Sir Paul has the most interesting forgotten oldie ever. In 1965, the Beatles released the song "Yesterday". Essentially just a Paul song, with Paul on acoustic guitar with a string quartet, it roared to number one everywhere. The song's creds are amazing... over 2,200 recorded covers, voted best song of the 20th century by the BBC, and the #1 pop song ever by MTV and Rolling Stone magazine. BMI asserts it's been played over seven million times in the 20th century alone. All that, and yet today we never hear it played. Very strange.
