In 1966 Peter & Gordon had a huge hit with a music hall style rendition of "Lady Godiva". The song went to #6 on the hot 100 in December and was actually Peter & Gordon's highest ranking USA hit. I believe the many music hall style hits of the time (Herman's Hermits/Henry the 8th, New Vaudeville Band/Winchester Cathedral, etc.) were received so well because most British musicians practically grew up in the old English music halls, and Americans loved anything remotely British. Nevertheless, Lady Godiva is a fun song, forgotten today...
