In 1966 a singer-songwriter named Bob Lind had a huge hit record that helped promote folk-rock internationally. "Elusive Butterfly" went all the way to #5 in both America and England and yet today it's just another forgotten oldie.

Seriously, they should put these up!!
"It's so gross!!" was the comment I heard over and over a couple weeks ago. This was after a local event featuring competitors drinking beer while they played. And a unique individual who thought it was accepted social behavior to publicly pee every fifteen minutes or so. How many times have we encountered an over-served buffoon doing his business on a sidewalk or lawn with an audience? I believe we should do what they do in the Czech Republic... first, put up signs and video cameras. Second, post the video on Youtube (see the sign?). Great idea!!

I need a new deck!
Still looking for an idea for a new deck, but running out of time as fall approaches. Then I see pictures like this and get all confused... maybe I should shoot for the moon!

Rule #1...
People ask me for camping advice pretty regularly. I understand it, I've been primitive camping in the wilds of Canada and New Mexico, done winter camping in Minnesota and Wisconsin, backpacked after mule deer and elk in several states, sand-bar camped on the Mississippi dozens of times, and the past few years had a permanent site at Goose Island. The one rule I always follow and quote... "watch out for the trailer hitch!!"

Did deejays make it a hit?
"Save Your Heart For Me" was a huge hit for Gary Lewis and the Playboys, reaching #2 on Billboard's Hot 100 on August 21, 1965... forty nine years ago today. Deejays told Gary Lewis they loved the song and played the heck out of it. Why? Because it's less than two minutes long, and of course you can play a lot of music on your show when the songs are short. "Save Your Heart For Me" is today's forgotten oldie.

A solid 10!!!
The song "Baby It's You" by LA based rock group Smith, was a top five smash in 1969, selling over a million copies between July and October. I love their version of the song... it's perfect, but a true forgotten oldie.

What to wear?
Apparently in Maine, 19 year olds wear t-shirts with pictures of themselves being booked into the same jail a couple of months earlier. Mom and dad will be so proud!

Monday...
And in an effort to get myself pumped up I'm posting an iconic swim-suit photo... Ursula Andress as Honey Wilder in the first James Bond movie, "Doctor No". If this doesn't work, I may have to resort to another iconic swim-suit pic!

Don't Worry Baby!
Today's Forgotten Oldie is a Beach Boys' tune... "Don't Worry Baby". Originally the B side of the #1 song "I Get Around", the song was re-released and reached #24 on it's own the same year, 1964. The song had tremendous airplay and was later voted #176 on Rolling Stone's 500 greatest rock and roll songs of all time, and #14 on Pitchfork Media's greatest songs of the 60's.

Insanity on the radio!
August 8, 1966-Forty eight years ago today the song "They're Coming to take Me Away, Ha Ha" peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Released by an artist mysteriously named Napoleon the 14th, in reality it was record producer Jerry Samuels. The public loved the novelty song but a follow-up and album with a similar theme both bombed. It seems the insanity approach works once, but not again. Today's forgotten oldie... They're Coming to Take Me Away Ha Ha!!

Another celebrity passing...
RIP Robyn Williams. Extremely funny, quirky, talented and troubled... but we'll miss him! Goodbye Mork from Ork.

Little Red Riding Hood...
Not the Fairy Tale, the hit record! Little Red Riding Hood peaked at #2 on the Hot 100 back in 1966, 48 years ago today. A solid hit for Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs, the song is simply a forgotten oldie today. Another smash hit ignored today.
