The Grass Roots were actually a band that was assembled by two songwriters to record and perform their music. Assembled in 1966, the Grass Roots had 21 charted hits, two gold albums and sold over 20 million records. A top 40 hit in 1968, Bella Linda rode the airwaves for five months and is still on the setlist for the Grass Roots today. In their 46 years as a band, the Grass Roots have had over 50 different members... mostly because ABC-Dunhill records controlled most of what they played live and recorded. I think they would have been much bigger stars if they'd been allowed to do their own thing. Their music is great, and Bella Linda is a classic example of their finest era.
