Stones...

On July 16th, the Rolling Stones played the last stop of their 2015 Zip Code Tour performing in front of 102 thousand Canadian fans in Quebec City.  From the reviews I've read, the show was great... but, was it the last Stones tour??

Blue Cheer

Blue Cheer was an American rock band that roared across the country with "Summertime Blues" in 1967. The song climbed to #14 on the Hot 100, and things looked good for the power trio.  But the song provided their only hit, and even though they stayed together until 2009, they never hit the charts again.  Credited as pioneers of Heavy Metal, Blue Cheer had a big fan... Dick Clark of American Bandstand.  Since today is Bandstand's birthday, included is a video of Clark introducing Blue Cheer on his show...

The Gypsy Cried

Today's forgotten oldie comes from Lou Christie, and is his first hit from 1963 when it nearly reached the top twenty.  An interesting guy, I met him in 1976 when he was attempting (I think) his fourth comeback.  He had an amazing, three octave range, and he showed it off on many of his hit records.  The Gypsy Cried is a cool record, today mostly forgotten..

San Franciscan Nights

Today's forgotten oldie is from the summer of love... 1967.  Eric Burdon and the Animals scored a top-ten international hit with "San Franciscan Nights", a song that wildly protests the Vietnam War.  It's still a great song today, despite the many cliches...

Paul Revere and the Raiders

Paul Revere and the Raiders was an American rock band that enjoyed great success in the 60's and 70's, and beyond.  Fronted by Lead singer Mark Lindsay, the band had a bunch of hits and best selling albums.  They are also a very interesting story.  They began playing together in 1958, they recorded "Louie Louie" at the same time as the Kingsmen but lost the race to record stores, they hosted three different TV shows, "Where the Action Is","Happening 68" and "It's Happening", and they even appeared on the Batman TV show. They also stayed on the charts with a string of top twenty hits, and today's forgotten oldie is one of those; from 1968 - "Too Much Talk".
