Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Yes, it's the day for the "wearin' of the green"... but, are you Irish??  When I was a little guy, my Grandma (half Irish) used to say that if you're Irish and you don't wear green on St. Patty's Day, you get pinched.  And, if you're not Irish and you wear green, you also get pinched.  Does anyone else remember that practice?

Anyone remember?

I remember June 30, 1977 very well.  Heart and the Little River Band performed that night at the old Mary Sawyer Auditorium.  I always enjoyed Heart's music and concerts.  I thought sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson were the female equivalent of Page and Plant.  Nancy was extremely good on guitar, very under-rated, and easy to look at too!  Plus, she had a great collection of guitars!  Here's to the good old days, and Heart!!

Number 6 on 4/4/64?

Have you ever wondered what song was number six on the Hot 100 on April 4, 1964... the day the Beatles held the top five spots on the chart?  It was today's forgotten oldie.... "Suspicion" by Terry Stafford.  The song eventually peaked at #3, and except for the Beatles, would easily have been #1.  What a great song, sadly forgotten today.

Grammy Award Winner!!

And yet, mostly forgotten today.  The Beatles song "Michelle" was one of three grammy winners for the Fab-Four on March 11, 1967.  Listed by BMI as one of the 50 most recorded songs in the world, the song was actually a bigger hit around the world than here in the USA, but it still dominated the airwaves here in '66.  Today, it's rarely played anywhere....

Another Saturday Night

In 1963, Sam Cooke took the song "Another Saturday Night" to #10 on the Hot 100, but a cover version by Cat Stevens in 1974 was a bigger hit, reaching #6 in the USA and #1 in Canada.  This is such a great song I've always wondered why it slipped into the Forgotten Oldie category!

Donovan

Back in the 60's, the British answer to Bob Dylan was Donovan Leitch, professionally known as simply Donovan.  After many hits in the mid 60's, his hippy image caused his downfall and his last couple of singles didn't fare well.  One of his last top 40 hits was "To Susan on the West Coast Waiting". It's a typical anti-war song, a typical Donovan song, mostly forgotten today.
