Today's Forgotten Oldie...

Only two rock bands in the 60's scored top ten hits with their first seven records.  One was the Lovin' Spoonful, the other may surprise you... Gary Lewis and the Playboys.  In 1965 and 1966 Gary and his Playboys ruled the airwaves.  A perfect blend of teen problems, the boy next door and sappy romance propelled the band to a record of 15 top 40 hits and 8 gold records.  "Sure Gonna Miss Her" peaked at #9 on April 9, 1966... exactly 48 years ago today.  But it's just another forgotten oldie today.  Yes Gary is the son of comedian Jerry Lewis, and yes they're the only rock band I ever saw with an accordion player.

Tuesday is a great day!

If you look at your week, is there a favorite day?  I don't mean picking Friday because it's close to the weekend.  A day that you look forward to because something awesome always happens that day... have one?  For me it's Tuesday.  Because the band usually practices on Tuesday.  That to me is the most fun you can have with your clothes on!!!

I never noticed...

It was pointed out to me last week, that the space ships on every Boston album are actually upside-down guitars.  I never noticed that before... duh!!!

Friday!!

I have decided that today is our last visit from Old Man Winter.  The camper goes to Goose in less than two weeks and we will be sitting around campfires soon.  I have also discovered a new food for camping... not sure if it will replace s'mores, but it's perfect for camping!

Today's Forgotten Oldie...

"Don't Throw Your Love Away" was a top ten hit by the Searchers in 1964. One of the Beatles immediate successors, the Searchers had a string of 60's hits and with the popularity of oldies today, still tour and perform.  Another great British Invasion song that's largely forgotten today.

Atlantis by Donovan was a world-wide smash in 1968, reaching #1 in many countries and #7 in the USA.  The theme of the song is common for the 60's, fanciful mythology as a symbol for the counterculture movement, with the dream of finding one's true love if one can overcome their struggles and reach Atlantis.  I just think it's a cool song and deserves airplay...
