Today's Forgotten Oldie

Today a forgotten oldie requested by a listener.  "Liar" was Three Dog Night’s single release after their chart topping song of 1971, Joy To The World. The song peaked at number 7. The song was on their 1970 album Naturally and was the third and last single released off of the album. According to Chuck Negron, Danny Hutton recorded the studio version of this song by singing it into a toilet, with his head just a few inches above the water. It makes sense since there is an eery vibration in the vocal.  I have never understood why this song is largely forgotten. A top ten hit, a great song and my all-time favorite from Three Dog Night.... Liar!

Today's Forgotten Oldie...

"Wendy" is a song written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love for the American rock band The Beach Boys. It was released on their 1964 album All Summer Long. It was also featured on their EP, Four by The Beach Boys. "Wendy" peaked at No. 44 on the Billboard Hot 100, but was a top ten song in many countries in July 1967 because outside the U.S.A. it was the B-side of "Good Vibrations".  It was also a big hit regionally in North America, making the top ten in Washington DC, Louisville, Vancouver, Minneapolis, Denver and Tucson; and the top twenty in Toronto, San Francisco, San Diego, Miami, Columbus, and Cincinnati. The song was originally credited to just Wilson. Mike Love's name was added as a result of a lawsuit filed by him against Wilson in the 1990's.  The song was also covered by the influential American punk band The Descendents on their Enjoy! album and their live album Liveage in the late 80's!

Today's Forgotten Oldie...

The Association is a pop music band from California in the soft rock genre. During the 1960s, they had numerous hits at or near the top of the Billboard charts and were the lead-off band at 1967's Monterey Pop Festival.  Best known for number one hits "Cherish" and "Windy", they cranked out several hits between 1965 and 1968, and continued recording until 1981. They're still active today on oldies tours.
Their last top ten hit was "Everything That Touches You".  To me it's their best song, at least my personal favorite... yet it's become another forgotten oldie.

R.I.P. Reg Presley

Reg Presley, singer with the 1960s British rock band The Troggs, has died aged 71.  The frontman died at his home in Hampshire surrounded by his family, his daughter Karen said.  The Troggs had a number of hit songs, including Wild Thing and Love Is All Around, which was covered in the 90s with huge success by Wet Wet Wet.  Reg was one of a kind... a humble, nice man... we'll miss him!!
