Dark humor...

I saw this joke the other day and couldn't decide if it was funny or not.  Then today I saw the forecast and how it's going to drop into the 50's and 40's the next few days, and suddenly the joke was funny.  What do you think?

Today's Forgotten Oldie...

Today's forgotten oldie is from Chase, a nine-member band that climbed into the charts in May of 1971 with "Get It On". Chase combined a lot of Jazz with their rock and roll, their leader Bill Chase had played trumpet with Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson and Woody Herman. One of several bands with a four-man horn section (most notably Chicago and Blood Sweat & Tears), the band eventually moved away from rock into jazz. Chase released three solid albums between 1971 and 1974 and were recording a fourth when Bill Chase and two band members were killed in a plane crash, effectively ending the band. But "Get It On" was a great song and was a big part of the summer of 1971 on my radio!

Mama said there'd be days like this...

Have you ever had one of those days?  Of course you have.  We all do.  What I like to do is tell the world I'm having a crappy day with a t-shirt.  This one seems to fit a lot of bad days....

Today's Forgotten Oldie...

Jo Jo Gunne is a rock band that formed in L.A. in 1971 by Jay Ferguson and Mark Andes after they left the band Spirit. The band had a one-hit wonder in 1972 with "Run Run Run", breaking into the top 40 and staying there for 11 weeks. I always had several requests every night to play the song at the old Macamba Club in LaCrosse.
The band was probably notable for it's members' presence in other bands... Jay Ferguson had a notable solo career with hits like "Thgunder Island" and "Shakedown Cruise", Andes joined Firefall and later Heart and scored many hits with both bands, and drummer William Smith was successful with Boston.
The original lineup re-formed in 2005 and still tours today!

A question...

Okay, today I came up with a recent photo that shows a woman stocking up for the weekend.
Question- What do you think she has planned this weekend?
Answer- Who cares! I just hope she asks me to go along!!

Today's Forgotten Oldie...

"Li'l Red Riding Hood" was a 1966 song performed by Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs. It was the group's second top-10 hit, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in August 1966 and No. 2 on the Canadian RPM Magazine charts. It was certified gold by the RIAA on August 11, 1966. In the song, the singer tells a modern-day Red Riding Hood that even though he's a big bad wolf, that he will treat her right... presumably because she looks so good.  Regardless, listeners loved the song, yet it's a forgotten oldie...

Just about the time...

... that you think you've got things figured out.  It turns out things are not what they seem. Words of wisdom for a Monday.

Today's Forgotten Oldie...

The Electric Prunes are an American rock band who first achieved international attention as an experimental psychedelic group in the late 1960s. The band performed its 1966 hit song "I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night)" on American Bandstand. Their follow up was also a top 40 hit, "Get Me To the World On Time".  The band is also recognized for the song "Kyrie Eleison," which was featured on the soundtrack of Easy Rider and was taken from their controversial Religious Rock album "Mass in F Minor".  After a period in which they had little control over their music, they disbanded for 30 years. In 1999 the band reformed, and by 2001 the members resumed recording and touring and remained active until 2011.
A fun band, a true garage band, and oh so relevant in the 60's, the Electric Prunes deserve more credit than they receive... and more airplay.
